Site Hacked By Russian Monkey Astronauts.

Last Saturday, CoopGamer.com was hacked by Russian monkey astronauts orbiting the moon in their banana-shaped space station.

A spokesperson on behalf of the monkeys stated “CoopGamer.com has far too much influence and power over world banks and government.  It must be kept in check before all is lost.”

When asked for comment, Mark from CoopGamer.com stated “Don’t you monkey bastards have anything better to do on a Saturday morning?”

The monkeys quickly released the following statement:  “No.”

The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer (PS2)

Rise of the Underminer

The chain of reviews starts.  A decent action game based on a license, but far from ground breaking.  Click the pic to view the review.

Note that Wikipedia lists this as a single-player game.  I don’t know why, it would’t let me edit it either.  It has two-player local coop.

Battle of the Compilations

I wrote up an article today that compares two classic compilations to see which one has better coop.  Click the pic to view.  Enjoy!

I need to get these down before I forget.  Tina and I have finished several coop games in the past month that I’d like to write up reviews on.  The following should be coming soon:

The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer (PS2)

Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath (PC)

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PC)

Trauma Center: New Blood (Wii)

Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed (Wii)

Tina gave birth to our baby boy Grant last Friday.  We are now officially parents.

Updates might be a bit slow as we try to catch up with all of life’s new challenges, but they will come.

Also, happy belated Father’s Day for you Dads out there.  I am now among your ranks.

Boom Blox Review Coming Soon.

Posted by Mark on 06 Jun 2008 | Tagged as: Coop News

Tina and I played through the entire coop mode in Boom Blox this week.

It’s a pretty good game and for the most part we had a good time playing through the mode.  I can’t say it has a whole lot of replayability (unless topping your old scores excites you).

We’ll be putting up a full review early next week.  There are some coop issues I would like to go into detail on.

Coop Regression.

Posted by Mark on 29 May 2008 | Tagged as: Coop News

What is coop regression?  It’s when a series actually makes a leap in gameplay by including coop in an installment… and then mucks it up in a sequel.

Case and point would be the Mario Kart series.  Specifically, I’m talking about Mario Kart: Double Dash for the GameCube and the new Mario Kart Wii.

Mario Kart: Double Dash made a wonderful leap over its predecessor Mario Kart 64 by allowing you to have two riders in the kart at once.  More importantly, you could have a friend controlling the character in the back.  One person would steer and control speed while the other person could attack and shift the momentum of the vehicle (plus you had to work together for those glorious blue sparks).  Both players could switch positions at any time too.  This was great fun to play together and I honestly have no idea why more weapons-based racing games haven’t taken this approach (driver + gunner).

When Mario Kart Wii was announced, I expected at the very least the “option” to ride duo, maybe only on certain karts.  That would have been fine, all I wanted was the option to be available.  It turns out they completely fubared it.  It’s gone.  No more coop.  They focused their effort on the online competitive play (which is great if that is your thing), but they left behind the stuff that got them where they were - the friends playing together for fun.

It’s so irritating, especially when it was already done well and then removed.  Plus, this is not something hard to implement at all.  What it boils down to is that they just didn’t see it as being important enough.  This is disappointing, especially from a company like Nintendo which used to have a track record of bringing family and friends together on the couch for some good times.

Anyway, Nintendo does not get my $50 this installment.  If they patch it to have coop, then they absolutely will.  But until then, it’s back to Double Dash.
